“Wasted Tees”
Old is new again. Reclaim and Refresh. This is what a local blanks manufacturer by the name of Everybody.World has been doing. Since 2016, they have successfully diverted over 640,000 lbs of waste from landfill into recycled cotton basics. Developed by Everybody. World (E.W) co founders, Iris Alonzo and Carolina Crespo create their garments from post-industrial debris leftover from the yarn manufacturing process- not the off cuts of existing garments, but the dust, debris ,dirt and cotton fibers. This is considered to be a world first endeavor that has potential to change the industry status quo.
Recently, I visited their headquarters located at- 5718 S. Santa Fe Ave in Vernon, Ca. You would easily pass it up if you weren’t outright looking for it, so pay attention. On Fridays from 10am-5pm they have “open shopping hours” where you can come by to shop the online store in real life, get some wholesale blanks or check out the factory flea market.
While there I got a chance to see some of the production as it was happening. Touch and feel the fabrics and speak to some of the workers. I also picked up a sample pack of their “Trash Tee Collection” Again there are no synthetic fibers, microplastics or virgin raw material used.
I will point out that are very limited in color selection on the wholesale front, sticking to the basics of Black, White, and Scour(Natural). I went with Scour for my sample pack as it was the most appealing to my eye. The sample pack showcases their Tubular Trash Tees styles: Boxier, short sleeve and Long Sleeve. Tubular means these tees feature no seams. They are a decent 6.5oz/216 gsm in weight which is good start in the midweight range of fabrics. The hand feel is soft and comfortable and doesn’t feel rough at all. It’s also important to note that these shirts are totally biodegradable.
I think what attracted me the most about the “Scour” color was the stray fibers knitted in because it is from reclaimed materials. Therefore giving each shirt a uniqueness all its own.
They also offer a “Trash Fleece” and “Accessories” sample pack. If you are interested in checking out Everybody.World, by all means go to everybody.world.com
Lastly, I love what this company is doing. It’s fresh, it’s innovative and it’s local. They partner with small, family run factories, who pay fair wages. They knit, sew, and finish their products within a five mile radius, support their community an minimize their carbon footprint, all the things SquirrelPrintz is aiming for. Hopefully a collaboration can happen in the not so distant future. In the meantime, be sure to check out this diamond in the rough.
